First game world series
The series-deciding seventh game was a scoreless tie (0–0) through the regular nine innings, and went into extra innings; Minnesota won by a score of 1–0 in the 10th inning, after their starting pitcher, Jack Morris, pitched a complete 10 inning shutout 7th game. https://bloggerpokertour.com/ (Morris was named Most Valuable Player for the Series.)
In 1901, the American League was formed as a second major league. No championship series were played in 1901 or 1902 as the National and American Leagues fought each other for business supremacy (in 1902, the top teams instead opted to compete in a football championship).
During this seven-year period, only three teams won the World Series: the Oakland Athletics from 1972 to 1974, Cincinnati Reds in 1975 and 1976, and New York Yankees in 1977 and 1978. This is the only time in World Series history in which three teams have won consecutive series in succession. This period was book-ended by World Championships for the Pittsburgh Pirates, in 1971 and 1979, who defeated the Baltimore Orioles both times.
Gambling and game-fixing had been a problem in professional baseball from the beginning; star pitcher Jim Devlin was banned for life in 1877 when the National League was just two years old. Baseball’s gambling problems came to a head in 1919, when eight players of the Chicago White Sox were alleged to have conspired to throw the 1919 World Series.
Longest game world series
The longest game to end in a scoreless tie was a National League contest between the Cincinnati Reds and Brooklyn Dodgers on September 11, 1946. The teams went 19 innings before darkness fell at Brooklyn’s Ebbets Field, forcing the game to be called on account of darkness. In the American League, the longest 0–0 game was played between the Washington Senators and Detroit Tigers on July 16, 1909. The game was called after 18 innings due to darkness at Bennett Park in Detroit. The longest scoreless period within a completed game came in the April 15, 1968 game between the Astros and Mets which remained scoreless after 23 innings.
Since the 2009 edition, a modified form of the rule has been used for the World Baseball Classic. Unlike the standard rule, the batting order may not start from a different place. Through the 2013 edition, the first inning in which teams started with runners on first and second was the 13th. The rule was not used in either the 2009 or 2013 editions because no game lasted more than 11 innings. For the 2017 World Baseball Classic, the rule was modified to use extra runners for the first time in the 11th inning, and it would see its first use in a second-round game between Japan and the Netherlands at the Tokyo Dome. Japan won that game thanks to a sacrifice bunt and a 2-run hit.
Buses on the Union Station route run non-stop between Union Station and Dodger Stadium. Service to the stadium begins operating 90 minutes before the start of the game, with departures every 10 minutes until the 3rd Inning. Buses stop at Center Field and Top Deck. Return service continues until 45 minutes after the final out or 20 minutes after post-game events, with buses departing as they fill.
In the 1995 American League Division Series, the Seattle Mariners and Yankees battled in Game 2 in 15 innings. The Yankees won the game on a two-run walk-off home run by Jim Leyritz, setting the record for longest game in MLB postseason history by time until 2005. In Game 5, the Mariners won the game and the series in 11 innings on Edgar Martínez’s famous double that scored Ken Griffey Jr. Until 2011, this was the only LDS game 5 in either league to go into extra innings.
The third point above led to Robin Ventura’s “Grand Slam Single” in Game 5 of the 1999 NLCS. In the bottom of the 15th inning, the New York Mets tied the score against the Atlanta Braves at 3–3. Ventura came to bat with the bases loaded, and hit a game-winning grand slam to deep right. Roger Cedeño scored from third and John Olerud appeared to score from second, but Todd Pratt, on first base when Ventura hit the home run, went to second, then turned around and hugged Ventura as the rest of the team rushed onto the field. The official ruling was that because Ventura never advanced past first base, it was not a home run but a single, and thus only Cedeño’s run counted, making the official final score 4–3.
Game world series 2011 6
Of all the World Series I’ve covered for MLB.com dating back to 2001, this is the one I remember most vividly. The auxiliary press box was in a loge located just above right field and I distinctly remember looking down and seeing Cruz playing as deep a right field as I’ve ever seen. Rangers closer Feliz had Freese down to his final strike, and then Freese hit a ball to right field and I thought “oh, that’s it,” but somehow — to this day I still don’t quite know how — the ball got over Cruz’s head, tipping off his glove and allowing two runs to score. I was dumbfounded, we all were. I would love to see the Statcast data and catch probability on that play, because as I remember it, he was playing almost with his heels on the dirt of the warning track. It just seemed like he froze.
Even in the face of adversity, the 2011 Cardinals proved to be a resilient bunch capable or miracles. St. Louis overcame an 11.5-game deficit in mid-August to claim the National League’s final postseason spot on the last day of the regular season.
I never thought I would see a moment in the World Series like the ones I covered in 2001, my first year on the Yankees beat for MLB.com. Some would surely come close, but the idea of anything topping the two-out, two-strike, ninth-inning home runs hit by Tino Martinez and Scott Brosius against D-backs closer Byung-Hyun Kim seemed implausible. Freese changed all of that.
Locally, the two teams’ flagship stations broadcast the Series with their respective announcing crews. The Rangers’ broadcasts aired on KESN (with Eric Nadel and Steve Busby announcing), while the Cardinals’ broadcasts aired on KMOX (with Mike Shannon and John Rooney announcing). Due to contractual obligations, the non-flagship stations on the teams’ radio networks carried the ESPN Radio broadcasts of the games, although the local broadcasts were available on XM Satellite Radio and to Gameday Audio subscribers at MLB.com.

Ray Willmott of Pocket Gamer wrote that the iOS version was “good-old fashioned entertainment at its finest,” writing that “Traveller’s Tales has done a remarkable job of making everything feel refreshing, yet authentic.” Willmott wrote that the touch controls “occasionally aren’t receptive to your gestures – particularly for jumping. But the experience is generally fluid throughout.” Willmott noted the sound effects as being “a bit tinny”, but praised the soundtrack and wrote that the graphics “occasionally sparkle and dazzle on the small screen.” Willmott concluded that while the game was not flawless, it was “a pleasure to play.”

The allosaurus snaps at them and then the gyrosphere. On the right side of the level, you can get an allosaurus amber. They jump onto the boat, and we see a brachiosaurus snug on the boat, who looks back at the island and see’s their sandwich is left behind. It cries out in sorrow as the sandwich goes up in flames. Then a solider serves it a new sandwich and its happy again.
